What is CBT?
What is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)? It’s a type of therapy that helps us take our mindset from negative assumptions leading to feelings of depression and anxiety thoughts to a more healthy mindset. Often in the moment we jump to conclusions make should statements and over-generalizations. These habits may have come in handy in the past, but today they lead to existential angst.
Understanding how to put negative thoughts in check no matter what the situation empowers us to have happier and healthy moods. Remembering, the only thing we can change is how we respond to events, rarely do we have power over anything else, but ourself.
Often we react to situations, but sometimes reactions are not healthy. Reactions lead to jump off’s and cataclysmic mood changes.
In order to change how we respond, we must learn how to respond. Cognitive Behavior Therapy teaches us that feelings lead to thoughts and thoughts lead to behaviors. By changing our thoughts, we change our behaviors, and therefore change how we feel.
Covid-19 provides us a perfect opportunity to utilize this time to learn how to respond instead of react to situations.
